We have a distinct--dare I say inherent?--tendency to favor the asshole in almost any argument. The typical argument goes something like, "Well, you should have just sucked it up / walked away / done what you were told / eaten that gigantic pile of shit. Because you didn't, you deserved whatever you subsequently got for not doing so, and I applaud the great skill / righteousness of the asshole who gave it to you." So much of the rhetoric in America deals with people "deserving" their lot in life, no matter what that lot happens to be, and no matter what kind of asshole motherfuckers we end up defending in service of the argument. Look at pretty much any comments section on the internet related to cops brutalizing Occupy protesters for prime examples of this argument. It's no big surprise, being that the larger socio-cultural backdrop of this country is Puritanism, which insists that salvation (or lack thereof) is predetermined, so however the pendulum swings for you, it's what you're getting and it's ultimately what you "deserve."

And we haven't even started talking about $40T in unfunded Medicare/Medicaid liabilities.

As a more practical matter, the improbability of upward economic mobility in the Land of Opportunity is well documented on your blog and elsewhere. By all accounts, nine-plus percent official unemployment is going to become the new normal for the foreseeable future. The real figure, which includes the long-term unemployed who have given up looking for work and the involuntarily underemployed, has been estimated to be as high as 25 percent. And here again, Mr Hope and Change has nothing to offer except extensions of the failed Bush policies. We haven't even started talking about so-called health care reform that is nothing more than a massive giveaway to the same rapacious insurance companies that caused the problem in the first place.As you've probably guessed, I moved to Canada and am starting on my fourth year here.

And I love it here. I frequently go back to the States to visit, but I breathe a sigh of relief when I cross that border back into the Civilised World. Here, benefits means employer-paid extended health insurance that covers dentists, head shrinkers (i.e., marriage and family therapists, psychologists and the like - MSP covers psychiatric care in full, infra, if you're really nuts), massage practitioners, quackopractors, nastyropaths, "doctors" of traditional Chinese medicine and the like.

This is on top of MSP that covers all medically necessary services in full with no deductibles, co-payments or any other out-of-pocket expenditures of any kind. And everybody gets MSP - from the senior partner at one of the Seven Sisters right down to the lowest, most strung-out street derelict.Of course, all of this has wrecked our economy, right? Wrong. Our unemployment rate is currently around 7.5%, a full two points lower than America's.

Our resources sector is going great guns to produce enough fuel for the Hummers driven by American men with potency issues. Also, keep in mind that our rate is always 1.5% - 2% higher than America's because of how we calculate it.There is also a lot of misinformation out there regarding the potential consequences of reneging on student loans and skipping the country. Such an order would not be worth the paper it is printed on outside the U.S. In order to collect, they would have to (1) sue in federal court, (2) take judgment against the borrower and (3) domesticate said judgment in the courts of whatever nation the borrower is living in. The Department of Education's current policy is to not pursue litigation at all against borrowers living in foreign countries. I attach a copy of their litigation manual for your reference. Oh, and U.S. student loans are dischargeable in Canadian bankruptcy.

Bottom line - there are many, many people who, like me, feel they have done the right thing all of their lives. We went to school, studied hard, started at the bottom and worked crap jobs for starvation wages. We did this all in exchange for the promise of a better life down the road. Those promises have turned out to be empty. We now have nothing to show for it but massive amounts of debt with little to no hope of ever repaying. We don't even have access to basic, affordable health care!

The Big Breakfast

Doug alpha struts with his fresh pair of easy spirits and his silk pajams suit on looking like the chateau's very own hugh hefner out to the veranda to enjoy his breakfast at the alpha table. All the while basking in the glow of bitter beta hatraid.

On out to the Vernanda we see the three species of men as we know them.

At one table we have our betas. The table that seats the betas is very long. On one end you have your nice beteas like Default User, Comment Whatever,Keith,college boy,pollymath, and MQ.

On the other end of the beta table you have your mean betas.

the drink brothers, whiskey and rum who fall right in the middle of the spectrum, sit along the mid point of the table.

You would think that even with a recession and all, roissy would be decent enough to spring for a new table for the betas but no he doesn't.

The beta table is so bad that one of the legs is missing so the guys crazy glued an old mop handle where the leg should be so that the table can be somewhat leveled.

When Whiskey is in one of his brooding woo is beta moods. He's been known to slam his elbows on the table which sends eveyone's drinks and food flying.

The chairs are rather shabby as well. Their are mix match law chairs, folding chairs,run down wooden chairs full of splinters, and a few milk crates.

Well at least the betas have tables and chairs... the omegas... Oh Lord.

the Omegas sit on grass. The only thing seperating omegas from the ants and other creatures of the dirt are thin used and abused table clothes. Well, it's not like the omegas eat much. Most of them weigh 100 lbs soacking wet. The way they see it, their vegan, raw food slow cooked locally grown diet of green grass juice needs and seads makes them far healthier than any carnovoire slab of red meat eating alpha. In fact what little the omegs do eat is shared with the women that love them.

Yup those evil weevil American feminist lawyer man hating sugery drinks cankles having latte drinking shebeasts. Why if I didn't know any better I would swear we where living in the days of Romans. Now the alpha table is a sight to behold. It's well made from marble and gold. The chairs are orginal Louis xvi which have been reupholstered and customed to fit the character of each alpha.

Well after keeping everyone waiting forever... out come the alphas. Oh what a mighty group of alphas we have here. Of course out comes the struting and so debnoire alpha doug daper #1 poon traper. Bhetti gently lays a napkin in doug's lap and smiles sweetly at doug. Behind Doug, other alphas slowly make their entrance. After all, alphas don't rush because that's what betas and omegas are for.

Well folks... things have been a bit slow in the chateau. Some of the long timers have moved on. It seems that R's rent increases along wit the sad job economy has made it so that many can't afford to live there anymore. R has had to open the place up to by the hour rentals and boy does it show. Just look at those random drive by comments in the place now. Honestly, I don't now how the few regulars left can take it.

This is a tale from better times.

One glorious spring day breakfast was being made for the chateau residents.

Dave from Hawaii, always an early riser was up at about 6 am. When dave came down to the kitchen, he found a brooding Whiskey and bottox sitting on a stools.

Buttox was eating a banana and his stool was flipped upside down.

Whiskey to dave: "hey dave, howse it going"
